Linda Pugsley<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p>Leadership. What does that mean to those of us in the Chaplain Corps? Being the boss, making the rules, recognition from your peers . . . I certainly hope that is not your definition. If itis, let me suggest you take a different viewpoint.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph \/-->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Leadership may have you in front, but that means you should be helping \u201cpull the wagon\u201d, so to speak. Humility, approachability, open to new ideas, even correction for any errors, should be the bedrock of your tools.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Let me review some principles from Kelly Perdue\u2019s book, &#8220;Take Command\u201d that I would like all of those in leadership positions to consider:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>Integrity-Take the harder right over the easier wrong.<\/li>\r\n<li>Duty-Do what you\u2019re supposed to do when you\u2019re supposed to do it.<\/li>\r\n<li>Passion-Be passionate about what you do or do what you are passionate about.<\/li>\r\n<li>Impeccability-if it\u2019s worth doing. . . do it right.<\/li>\r\n<li>Teamwork-There is no \u201cI\u201d in teamwork.<\/li>\r\n<li>Selfless Service-Give back.<\/li>\r\n<li>Planning-Fail to plan. . . then plan to fail.<\/li>\r\n<li>Loyalty-Up, down and around your organization.<\/li>\r\n<li>Flexibility-The person with the most varied responses wins.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>Take it to heart, remain on the front lines in the very real, ongoing spiritual battle we face. Ministry of presence, with the above principles helps keep the ship afloat and moving in the right direction. Let\u2019s work together. Our motto should be: T.U.F.F. Together, United, Focused andFaithful.
